Report of officer: Newsletter editor Dan Rotondo wants to step down due to time constraints. Kevin Oliver recommends we start a Facebook page. Commandant Gordon Mac Phee will speak with saki about starting up a Facebook page.
Report of Standing Committees: Scholarship committee, information has been provided to all Howard County High Schools. Awaiting application from students, first applications should come in around late May early June.
Pistol match, need to know all members attending.

Minutes: Motion to postpone accepting of minutes until the next meeting. Motion carried!
Report of paymaster: Given by Dennis Graham; motion to accept passed pending audit.
Mike Betts gave a report on the MCL conference that was well attended in Ocean City MD. Mike also announced that he was voted in as Department Sr. Vice Commandant.
Pistol match will be this weekend 31 May-June 1, 2; Dan Rotondo gave a brief update about the match.
Also spoke regarding raffle tickets for Mid-East division conference. It was noted that no tickets were raffle tickets were received.
Road clean up June 8th contact Bill Pastino more for more information. Every one planning to help will be meeting at Eggspectation 0800.
Dinner on Friday switched to June 7, 2013
Rifle Match will be held in September more information to follow.
Unfinished business: nothing at this time.
Motion on the floor to support the cook outs at Walter Reed in August 2013: Motion by Bill Swain for $500.00. The motion was second. Curtis requested that we amend the motion to $750.00. Motion was amended and discussion is on the floor.
In dept discussion regarding where the funds would be coming from; who will be heading up the fundraiser and what type of fund raiser will be needed support this event each year. The amended motion for $750.00 passed.
Good of the league
Come out and support the post during their Friday night dinner as they support us.
Dennis shared with us a story of two men, Army Ranger who have not seen each other in over 60 years.
They were in the invasion force of D-day.
Dennis Graham is the Detachment Marine of the year for 2013.
Awards were given out to our detachment for Pistol match and also to Bill Pastino for his efforts and support for Veterans and Marine of MD.
Dennis Graham informed the detachment about the Flag retirement ceremony at the Bowie American Legion.
Announcement: Mideast conference will be held in Hagerstown MD 27 June 2013.

Meeting adjourned for scholarship presentation at 1919 and refreshment.

Report of Standing Committee: Daniel Rotondo gave an update of the rifle match sponsored by Dept of PA MCL. It will not be held at Fort Indiantown Gap this year. It will be held at a range in Chambersburg PA. Anyone wishing to attend can go on line to get the paper work and dates for the match.
Daniel Rotondo also mention our dinner at the post in August and stated that someone from the Detachment will have to set up and prepare this dinner and contact Rick or Mary from the post to let them know the menu.

New Business: Brief conversation regarding need to do more fund raisers. Currently we only have our Friday night dinners once a month.

Opening Ceremony: Meeting started at 1930

Report of Paymaster: Motion to accept pending audit. Motion Carries.
Sick or Distressed: None at this time.
Report of officer: Sgt-at-Arms offered his apology for not being available to attend meetings due to travel.
Report Standing committee: Sept 7, 2013 Road Clean up.
Report of Special committees: Kevin Oliver brought up about fund raisers, offered an idea of raffling a AR-15 rifle but tabled the motion until the new laws have been activated. Bill Pastino brought up possible poker tournament as a fund raiser. Bill will have to research the laws and obtain more information. Joe Roman brought up hot dog sales, not sure where we could do this. Kevin Oliver will chat with the Lowes off 175, and Gordon will check with Home Depot. Possible contact with Toys-R-Us. Gordon will look into a golf tournament in Howard County.
Unfinished Business: Discussion to give one thousand dollars to granddaughter of Karl G. Taylor after verifying student in good standing and currently enrolled in class. Motion made by Daniel Rotondo and second by Ed Underfinger. Motion carried.
New Business
Good of the league: Bill Brooks introduced his Marine Friend Carl Schicks as a special guest to the meeting and he shared some of his experience in the Corps. He shared with us about a raffle of M1 Garand 60 Anniversary addition. It is the only one like it. He spent 50 dollars for the tickets and won the rifle. He will donate the rifle to the Marine Corp Museum at Quantico.
Announcements: Presentation given to Dennis Graham for 2012 Marine of the year. Commandant, mention to the detachment we should have a group plaque for all past and future Members who were marine of the year. The plaque would hang on our wall at the VFW where we hold our meetings. Also that each individual would have a personal plaque to display at their home!

Bill Brooks reminded the Detachment about the donation that Carl has shared with our detachment and we have to put together a proper thank you for Carl.

Call to Order: Sr. Vice Commandant Mike Betts called the meeting to order at 1930. Chaplain Joe Roman led us in the Opening Prayer.
Roll Call of Officers: Commandant, Adjutant and Sgt-at-Arms not present, all others present and accounted for. Acting Commandant, Mike Betts; acting Adjutant, Dianne Bradley; acting Sgt-at-Arms, Curtis Atkins.

Reading of Minutes from Previous Month: Motion to accept the minutes as published, first and seconded. Motion carried.
Report of Paymaster: Given by Dennis Graham. Motion to accept made by Kevin Oliver, seconded by Bill Swain. Motion carried.

Correspondence: Received a letter with a $74 contribution from Booz Allen Hamilton. Contribution to be applied to the scholarship fund. Received letter from the National Ladies Auxiliary with raffle tickets for the Mid-Winter conference. To purchase tickets, see Mike Betts.

Paymaster – The Friday night dinner netted us a $145 profit. Turnout was low. We need more support from members.

Standing Committees
Road Clean-up: Date is 9 November 2013 as posted on the website.
Scholarship: A $750 scholarship has been awarded to Karl G. Taylor’s granddaughter. We are confirming her enrollment prior to distributing the funds.
Toys for Tots: Bill Pastino is the Chair. An email will be sent in order to sign up for shifts.
Oktoberfest: Danny Rotondo is chair. He recently sent an email requesting everyone to sign up to bring dishes. The event will be held on Saturday 26 October at the VFW. 1600 set up, 1700 start. Need responses to email and participation in event.
Veterans Day: Veterans Day Luncheon and Marine Corps birthday celebration sponsored by our detachment will be held at the Ellicott Mills Brewing Company. All veterans eat free and their guests are ten dollars each. Date of this event is Sunday 10 November starting at 1300. We are still selling the raffle tickets for the TV, which will be drawn on this date.
