Report of Paymaster: Accepted pending audit. Report given by Paymaster Dennis Graham.
Report of any member sick or in distress: Bob Walton had a stroke. Mike Betts spent the afternoon with him and gave an update to members in attendance at tonight’s meeting.
Report of officers: Mike Betts went to the Marines Helping Marines program and gave an update of what had taken place.
Mike Betts gave update on Mark Jordan to inform the membership about donations from our benevolent fund. Frank Kippenbrock gave further details and also made a motion.
Report of standing committees: Report given regarding the pistol match by Dan Rotondo.
Scholarship report given by Dennis Starliper. Motion made, seconded, and passed after discussion to award two one thousand dollar scholarships (should we have worthy applicants). Mike Betts, Bill Pastino, and Sam Stein will be assisting Dennis in reviewing applications.
Frank Kippenbrock gave an update on the golf tournament. Also asked for assistance in getting door prizes and corporate sponsors to make this years tournament a success.
Adopt-a-Highway cleanup planned for March 29, 2008. Requesting as many members as possible to attend.

Frank Kippenbrock gave report on upcoming convention in Ocean City.
Frank also made motion to do a full page ad.
Also to donate $100.00 to offset the cost for the convention.
Motion to pay for convention raffle tickets and if we (as the detachment) win, proceeds will go to the scholarship. Motion made and accepted.
New Business: Motion made for $200 per deligate, motion amended to $200 dollars to be divided up by days (thirds).
Bill Brooks asked a question regarding the interest on our checking account. He will bring updated information to the next meeting. Sam will also check into investment areas.

New Business: Motion made and accepted to supply for the needs of a Marine Aviation unit in Iraq. A budget of $500.00 was voted on and accepted to purchase supplies. Marine Casey is in contact with Gunny Balow regarding this matter. Marine Stan Brosky is looking into possible donations to meet the needs of items requested. Items needed are coffee, shaving cream, body wash, face soap, and deodorant.

The following information was presented by Marines Betts. Injured Marines are in need of a tray table for a bed and also a lift to pick a patient up from a bed.
Announcements: Gerry Fay announced that he would like our detachment to support Kip at the Ocean City convention for Department Judge Advocate and Jerry Faye for state Commandant.
Mike Blum encouraged all members to attend the National convention in Florida.

Report of paymaster: Paymaster on vacation. Report will be presented next meeting.
Report of any member/family sick or distressed: Dennis Graham lost two grandchildren and former daughter-in-law in auto accident.
Motion made and accepted to send Dennis and Janet Graham a plant in remembrance of their loss. Spend up to $150.00.
Report of officers: Sr. Vice Betts reports three trips to Bethesda and attended funeral services of a WWII Marine.
Jr. Vice Brooks will be doing follow-up calls of all current and past members to encourage them to attend upcoming meetings.
Judge Advoate has nothing to report.
Report of Standing Committees: Pistol match attendees will meet after tonight’s meeting to discuss the match.
Scholarship committee reports that we have two applications in at this time.
Commandant encouraged all members to attend our monthly dinner on the second Friday of each month.
Commandant discussed golf tournament and the need for more sponsors and golfers.
Commandant also thanked Stan and Sam for the support on gifts. He also encouraged all members to come up with fundraiser ideas.

Unfinished Business: Commandant reopened the discussion on supporting Marine Air wing in Iraq. Motion made to double the amount allocated at last meeting. Discussion on floor suggesting to send out $500.00 in supplies and to find out what else they would need. Motion passed to up the amount to $1,000.00. DJ, Chuck, and Mike will pursue the supplies and Dennis and Jean Starliper will work on the mailing of the supplies.
New Business: Sr. Vice Betts asked if anyone received info on the Memorial Day parade.
Motion made and accepted to purchase six $50.00 gift cards from Giant or Safeway for a Marine family in Hartford county.

The meeting was called to order by Commandant Chuck Casey at 1930
A quorum of officers was present as was special guest Gerry Fay, State Commandant.
Upon motion made and carried reading of the prior meeting minutes was tabled.
New Business
• Application for membership for Leon Buck Outen; motion made and second, application was discussed and motion carried.
• Correspondence from the wife of Bill Gable was reviewed
Paymaster Report was presented and discussed. Motion made and carried to accept the report.

Announcement was made reminding all that Saturday 28 June is the date for Road Clean-up.
Fundraising
• Commandant Casey reviewed the success of this year’s golf outing. The collection of some pledges and fees remain outstanding.
• Bill Pastino volunteered to assume responsibility for a TV raffle.
Scholarship
• On behalf on Scholarship Committee members Mike Betts, Bill Pastino and Sam Stein, Scholarship Chairman Dennis Starliper presented and discussed the outcome of this year’s campaign.
• Ten applications were submitted, reviewed by the Committee and three winners were awarded $1,000 scholarships. Chairman Starliper and the Committee members presented the rationale for the winners’ selection and responded to questions from members.
• Upon motion made and carried, approval was granted to add one $1,000 scholarship to this year’s grant to increase grants given from two to three. The additional funding requirement will be satisfied by contributions to the Scholarship Fund from the Auxiliary and Booz Allen Hamilton.
• This year’s winners were: Devon Caldwell, Emily Casey, and Thao Anh Khuc and they will receive their scholarship grants at next month’s meeting, 22 July 2008. All members’ presence is requested, in appropriate dress, for this occasion. Let’s not let the guest attendances (9) exceed the member attendance. Refreshments will be served.
Good of the League
• Marine Betts announced a July 4th affair at the Betts residence. All are invited for dogs and burgers, rifle competition and horseback riding (two separate events!). Show up anytime.

Report of quarterly given by Mike Betts (Sr. Vice). Sr. vice Mike Betts expressed concern of the fact that no one other than himself was at the funeral of Marine Captain in Afghanistan.

Report of Standing Committees: Will discuss the upcoming rifle match after the meeting.
Report of Special Committees:
Pete Purvie is the Toys-for-Tots representative. Collection runs from October through December in this area. We will start immediately after Halloween. Pete has arranged for a container to be left here at the VFW post for the toys. He also has arranged for a warehouse near the Dorsey Road VFW. The dedicated web address for this project is http://www.Toysfortotsannearundle-howard.org. The Commanding General for recruit command has instructed all recruiting station to be involved. Cut off dates will be December 22, 2008. Presentation given to Doug Putt: for his help with Toys-for-Tots.
Unfinished Business:
Bill Pastino will be doing a Veterans Day party on November 9, 2008 for veterans. There will also be a cake cutting ceremony for the Marine Corps birthday.
New Business:
Motion made by Marine Kippenbrock to assist Ellicott Mills Brewing Company to help defer expenses in the event the funds are not recouped thru the TV raffle and Veterans Day party.
USO Golf tournament will be held October 2nd. Call Marine Frank Kippenbrock for details.
Wounded Warrior Ball to be held on the 6th of November 2008. Wounded Marines have to raise their own money to have this ball. Motion made to donate $500 to the Wounded Warriors ball. Mike Betts will supply information to Dennis Graham regarding where to send the check.

Mr. Herget of the Young Marines and their leaders were here to introduce themselves. They are from the Historic Elkridge detachment and plan to assist in Toys-for-Tots.

Bill Pastino gave information (November 9, 1pm to 4pm) on the birthday cake cutting and Veterans Day celebration at Ellicott Mills Brewery. TV Raffle is still going on. Over $700.00 in tickets have been sold.
The Marine Auxiliary will be serving dinner on November 14, 2008.
Report of Special Committees: Toys-for-Tots kick off November 7 and 8 at Toys-R-Us, Columbia Crossing. There will be a sam container at the Jessup VFW hall to keep the toys. As the containers get full we will need volunteers to move the toys to Pete Pervie’s main location. Other area of to collect toys in Howard county are needed. If you think of a place, please advise the commandant. Make sure that when you collect toys, make sure they are unwrapped. A date has not been determined as of yet for the last day to collect. If you set up a location for toys, make sure that you close it out on the final date. We do not want to leave any toys or box in place after the deadline.

Sr. Vice attended Wounded Warrior ball with his wife and is continuing visitation at Bethesda. Any member wishing to go to Bethesda should get with Mike Betts.
Raised $900.00 for TV raffle. The winner was our own, Marine Doug Putt.

Toys for tots has 23 collection points in Howard County. Commandant suggests we work Toys-R-Us every other weekend.
Commandant gave an update on how collection for toys went over the past weekend. See Commandant Casey if you can work the collection post.
Commandant Casey will get with Marine Kippenbrock regarding the 2009 golf tournament.

Marine Sam Stein has had shirts made up for the detachment. Long sleeve shirts sell for $17 dollars, $14 dollars for short sleeve shirts, and $30.00 for golf shirts.
Michael Betts ranked 3rd place in sharp shooter division at Fort Indian town Gap rifle match.
Unfinished Business:
Road Cleanup on December 6, 2008. This is the last one of the year.
New Business:
Commandant Casey brought up discussion to supply $300 and time to replace material around bar. A hold will be put on to this discussion until more detail is given.
Tree of lights $50 for Karl Taylor and $25 each for five deceased detachment members: Jack Harding, William O’Neil, Artie Flock, Don Yowell, and Bobbie Flock.
Announcements:
Al Athie, Sgt Major retired will be putting together a trip to Parris Island. Commandant Casey will forward information out to the detachment.
December 19 will be a meeting at Commandant Casey’s house for our monthly meeting and detachment Christmas party.
At 1600 on January 10, our detachment will be hosting a quarterly meeting at Ellicott Mills Brewery. It starts at 0800 with coffee and donuts.
