Meeting called to order at 1940
Roll Call: Commandant out of town. Sr. Vice called out with car trouble.
Chaplain position has yet to be filled. Jr. Vice Bill Swain conducted meeting.
No new applicants.
Minutes for January accepted as posted and sent via email.
Correspondence: Invitation received from Military order of World War II inviting members of our detachment to attend the Memorial Day event.
Report of paymaster for January and February was given. Motion to accept pending audit was approved.
Sick or in distress: DJ mentioned with regards to upcoming surgery.

Standing Committees: Saki gave update on Savage Fest, June 6, 2015 from 10am to 5pm. Saki has a list of requirements to make this happen. Bill Swain will commit to coolers and food storage. Bill Swain also offered to obtain use of truck if needed to transport grills. Volunteers needed to work Savage Fest.
Saki spoke about running a recruiting ad to attract new members listing in the ad the fun events that we have to help attracted new members. Discussion was offered up by all members present on how we need to more fun events that will attract new members.
Scholarship web site is up and literature has been sent out to all Howard County Schools.
Spring Festival will be coming up in our area if we want to go as a group to participate and/or recruit.

Correspondence: Information came in regarding fundraiser that is being done by National Auxiliary.
Report of paymaster: Motion to accept pending Audit. Note that audit performed on previous paymaster reports in April 2015 by Dan Rotondo.
Report of any member/family sick or distressed: DJ for chemo. Dennis Graham cancer treatment.
Report of officers:
Mike, Gordon and Bill attended Howard County Veterans affair event. Keynote speaker was Mike Blum.
J/A Report: Saki gave an update on the May Dinner. Saki also wanted to know who has our tax exempt number.
Report of Standing Committees:
Saki gave an update on Savage Fest. Corporate donations have reached $200.00. Saki also reviewed a list of responsibility for each volunteer working the event which starts at 10:00 am.
Pistol match update were given by Dan Rotondo. Pistol match dates are May 29-31, 2015.
Gordon gave an update on the scholarship committee. A steady stream of applicants are coming in.
Saki recommended taking funds from Savage Fest profits if additional scholarship money is needed.
Saki requested photos from the upcoming pistol match.
Report of Special Committees: Saki gave an update on an ad that was placed to attracted new members.

The committee received 16 applications for the MCL $1000 scholarship.
Scholarships were awarded to: Caroline Goyne of Hammond HS and Athena Kan of River Hill HS.
Savage Fest- Held on June 6, 2015.

Good of the League:
The VFW will not always be open during scheduled meetings. Members should enter the side door on the upper level to enter meeting room. Members should bring personal refreshments since the VFW bar will generally not be open.

• September 26: Ellicott City Main Street Music Festival. Our detachment will sell raffle tickets for Marine Corps Birthday luncheon. Motion to authorize Bill Pastino to spend up to $500 for raffle items. Motion by Saki. Seconded by MacPhee. Will consider TV and maybe a bean bag game.
• Oktoberfest canceled.
• Bill Brooks to look into contacting Ellicott City VFW to discuss moving to new meeting place.

New Business: Bill Brooks suggested we consider ways to provide assistance to Marines in lieu of scholarships. MacPhee to contact 4th Engineers to discuss how we can assist active duty or reservists.

Bill Brooks gave an update regarding moving the meeting to the Yingling VFW.
Saki looked into possibility of having meetings at the Carroll Baldwin hall. Cost is $40.00 to do so. Note: no kitchen facility available.
Website has been updated.
Good of league: Bill Brooks has three year supply of Leatherneck magazine if anyone is interested in having any.
Discussion of possible range day in November for Marine Corps birthday.
Saki wants to send out Bylaws to discuss updating them.

Opening Ceremony: 1933 meeting opened for official business.
Roll Call of Officers: Sr. Vice absent, all other officers were present.
Applications for membership: Stephen George Kovalchik
Balloting on Applications: Application accepted by all members present.
Ceremony of Initiation: Performed by Commandant Betts. Stephen Kovalchik was officially sworn in as a member of the SSgt. Karl G. Taylor Sr. Detachment.
Meeting recessed for two minutes to allow members to welcome Stephen.
Minutes of previous meeting: Previous meeting did not have a quorum, notes of discussion were taken. See Adjutant if you wish a copy of the notes or details.
Correspondence: None
Report of paymaster: Paymaster covered two previous months pay reports. Motion to accept reports passed pending audit.
Report of any member/family sick or distressed:
Dennis and Janet Graham are currently receiving or recovering from medical treatment. Bill Brooks’s daughter is recovering from pneumonia. DJ completed chemo treatment. Dennis Graham will be having another surgery December 6, 2015.
Report of officers: Commandant Betts gave an update of the Marine Expo at Quantico.
Report of Standing Committees:
Marine Corps Birthday and Veterans Day celebration to be held at the Ellicott Mills Brewery starting at 1300 Sunday, November 8, 2015.
Bill Pastino will be heading up Toy-4-tots this year. Email will be sent regarding times and dates.

Unfinished Business:
New Business: Ellicott City will be having their first Veterans Day parade and request our detachment attend this event. Bill Pastino will be providing information to Commandant Betts and emails to the detachment will be sent out to update each member and to solicit volunteers to march in the parade.
Announcements:
1. Saki shared various ideas regarding community events that would allow the detachment to cook at to raise funds for our many projects that we support.
2. Our next detachment meeting will be Held at the Yingling – Ridgley VFW Post Ellicott City.
3. Saki will send out a copy of the Bylaws for review and also to update them.
Ceremony of Installation of officers: None
Good of League: As discussed under announcements, we will be meeting at Yingling-Ridgley VFW. The discussion on the floor is that by doing this we will be more centrally located in Howard County and attract new members to the detachment.
Closing Ceremony: 2025. Meeting was closed until November 24, 2015 when it will reopen for official business.
